How to handle a breakaway

One of the worst things that can happen as a defender is you or someone else makes a mistake and an opposing player (or players) break by you and your fellow defenders; however, it's important not to give up and there are a few things that can be done to "correct" the error. The first thing is to use whatever energy you can in catching up to the player and keep on them - the most important thing is to not give the attacker ANY time to think so he or she is more prone to making a mistake. Remember though, try to think it out before blindly going in and fouling - you never know if it will give them a penalty and you will indefinitely get a yellow card if you take down your opponent.

With the proper skills you should easily be able to stop any striker, no matter how good they are

  1. Taylor, this post is very interesting and helpful to a defender. I play soccer, although I'm not a defender, this information could be very useful so I will pass it on to any defenders I know. You really do spend a lot of time watching, playing, living, and breathing soccer! P.S. the picture mad me lol.
