The first thing you need to do before a Slide Tackle is to get on the opponents side (make sure you decide which foot would be the most effective before - this requires quick thinking) and keep your eyes on the ball until the opportunity arises to go in. REMEMBER - If you miss or he's able to get by you while you're slide tackling - you give the opponents a major advantage and a higher possibility to score.
When going in make sure to still keep your eyes on the ball, and aim to tackle across your opponents path - never from behind since it's outlawed. Make sure your leg is slightly bent (approx a 45 degree angle) and use your momentum to sprint in and drop on the ground
While sliding on the outer thigh, sweep your leg while using your laces and make FIRM contact with the center of the ball and knock it away with one swift movement - any hesitation will cause the opponent . NEVER plant down with the spikes (studs) of your cleats
While your opponent is staggered - get up as quickly as you can and when you have the ball under control - accelerate away from them.

Taylor, whenever I take a break from goalie to play field I usually play right mid. Since right mid is part of the midfield it requires some tracking back to play defense. This page has really helped because I always seem to commit a foul or get a card or get someone hurt when I attempt a slide tackle. Now I know how to successfully slide tackle! Thank You!
